STATEMENT

My mission is to capture and share the gentle beauty of those  beings who inhabit the space nearby, so nearby  that they almost go unnoticed in the chaos of urban living. I especially find that  the Moon, whose  ever-changing shape journeys through the sky, to touch a deep chord in my soul. With my pictures,  I hope to inspire other urban dwellers to re-weave their relationship with these beings, to look at them with different eyes,  and to find a new sense of place where we spend most of our lives.

BIO

Gaia Somasca has been capturing the mysterious beauty of Moonrises and Moonsets since 2009. Her photos focus on the fleeting moments when the Moon silently yet stunningly appears or fades along the horizon. Her work explores the interplay between Earth’s changing landscapes and the Moon’s face, longtime companion to our existence, and so far untouched by human hands. In doing so, she highlights these often-unnoticed instants when the Moon appears so close to us and call our attention back into relationship with the land and sky we inhabit.

Gaia Somasca  is also a Licensed Psychotherapist in California and a practicing humanistic astrologer.
